Transparency makes dust, fingerprints, and scuffs visible sooner than on a fabric bag. The good news is that a gentle routine is usually enough. The goal is not to polish the PVC with aggressive products, but to remove dirt without altering its shine, color, or flexibility.

What you'll need
- Two soft, clean, lint-free microfiber cloths.
- Room temperature water.
- A flat surface covered with a clean towel.
- Ink-free paper or a neutral filler to restore shape.
For routine cleaning, you don't need alcohol, bleach, glass cleaner, or abrasive products. The fewer ingredients, the lower the risk of dulling the surface.
Step 1: Empty and separate parts
Remove the inner pouch, removable ornaments, and all contents. Check pockets, corners, and the area under the clasp. Gently shake off any dust. If there's sand, do not start rubbing: each grain can act as an abrasive.
Step 2: Remove dry particles
Use a dry, clean cloth to remove surface dust. For tight corners, fold the cloth over itself instead of inserting sharp objects. Avoid stiff brushes, rough paper towels, and scouring pads.
Step 3: Clean with controlled moisture
Lightly dampen a second cloth and wring it out well. Wipe small areas, avoiding soaking seams or hardware. Work from the top down to avoid redistributing dirt.
Do not submerge the bag or place it under running water. Although the outer PVC does not absorb water like fabric, openings and seams can allow moisture to penetrate.
Step 4: Dry without heat
Remove moisture with the dry cloth and let the open bag air dry at room temperature. Do not use a hairdryer, radiator, iron, or direct sunlight. Heat can deform plastic materials and alter the finish.
How to clean the inner pouch
Treat the inner pouch as a separate item. Check the composition and care label before applying water or soap. Empty it, remove dust, and address stains locally. Do not reinsert it until both pieces are completely dry.
What to do with a recent stain
Act quickly and without rubbing vigorously. First, remove excess with a clean cloth, then use controlled moisture. If the stain doesn't come out, stop before applying a solvent. A small mark is preferable to a dull or deformed area caused by an incompatible product.
Any additional cleaner should be tested on an inconspicuous area and be recommended for the specific composition of the bag.
Products to avoid
- Alcohol and hand sanitizer.
- Acetone and nail polish remover.
- Bleach, ammonia, and solvents.
- Glass cleaners and degreasers.
- Perfumes, hairsprays, and aerosols.
- Wipes with unidentified ingredients.
- Abrasive sponges and stiff brushes.
These products can leave streaks, dry out, discolor, or alter the surface. Also avoid homemade remedies based on mixtures whose compatibility you cannot verify.
Color transfer
Light finishes can pick up pigment from dark clothing, denim, magazines, or damp surfaces. Do not leave your bag resting for hours on materials that bleed color. If you detect transfer, clean it promptly with the gentle method and do not increase friction.
Marks and scratches
Cleaning can remove dirt, but it doesn't always eliminate a physical mark on the material. To reduce scuffs, separate keys, zippers, and objects with sharp edges. Store cosmetics inside the inner pouch and avoid dragging the bag on rough surfaces.
After the beach
Let the sand fall off before wiping. Remove salt and sunscreen residue with light moisture, dry hardware well, and allow it to air out. Do not store a damp bag or leave it in a hot car.
How to store it without deforming it
- Make sure it is clean and dry.
- Gently stuff the interior with ink-free paper.
- Place the handles in a natural position.
- Avoid folding the body or stacking objects on top.
- Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Quick routine after use
Empty the bag, remove any liquids, wipe with a dry cloth, and check for sharp objects. This one-minute routine reduces the need for intensive cleaning.
